Natural Teeth Whitening Ingredients to Brighten a Dull Smile
Natural teeth whitening is often preferred over chemical bleaching. Learn which habits dull your smile and four home ingredients you can try.
Most people would rather use teeth whitening products made from natural ingredients than ones that contain chemicals. Before you pick the right whitening ingredient, though, it helps to know which habits dull your teeth.
- Drinking alcohol or drinks with a lot of caffeine, additives, or carbonation.
- Smoking unfiltered cigarettes.
- Brushing too rarely, which lets plaque build up.
If any of these causes sound familiar, you can try a few natural whitening ingredients, such as:
Epsom salt and lemon
Besides acting as an exfoliant, Epsom salt mixed with lemon juice contains antibacterial compounds that reduce germs in the gums and mouth. You can mix the two straight into the toothpaste you normally use. Do this at least twice a week to brighten your enamel by one to two shades from where it started.
Turmeric
Regular coffee, tea, or soda can leave teeth looking cloudy or yellow. If you want a confidence boost, sprinkle turmeric powder onto your toothpaste and brush with it at least three times a week. After brushing with the turmeric toothpaste, rinse with warm water.
Guava leaves
The saponins and flavonoids in guava leaves help deal with dental plaque and swollen gums. They can also give you brighter teeth gradually. To get the benefit, wash the leaves well and crush them. Put the crushed leaves on your toothbrush and brush your teeth in circular motions. Rinse with warm water afterward, and repeat twice a day for a week straight.
Strawberry and baking soda
Another natural option for whitening teeth is strawberry with baking soda. Mash one strawberry and mix it with baking soda, then brush with a soft toothbrush. You can do this treatment at least twice a week. If you want to look after your teeth on a regular basis, you can check here.
