Outsourced Workers: What to Know Before Hiring an Agency
Thinking of using an outsourcing agency? Learn four things to check first: non-core roles, fixed-term contracts, work obligations and the provider's license.

You have probably heard of outsourced workers. They are employees of one company, a labor provider, who are assigned to work for a client company. Outsourced staff usually fill support jobs such as security, cleaning and general assistance. There are many outsourcing companies in Jakarta to choose from, so you can find one that fits your company's needs. Before you sign a work contract with outsourced workers, though, you need to know the following:
- They Must Be Non-Core Workers
A company has two kinds of staffing. Core employees are permanent staff who work in the areas that keep the company's processes and systems running, such as managers and the CEO. Non-core employees work in support areas where the job does not affect the company's basic operations, such as security and cleaning, or construction laborers if you are in the property sector. If you want to use outsourced workers, you may only contract non-core workers.
- Fixed-Term Employment Agreement
Outsourced workers are not permanent employees. The company that uses them cannot reassign them or appoint them to a position as it pleases. Outsourced workers in Jakarta must be bound by a fixed-term employment agreement (PKWT), usually lasting 1 to 2 years from the date of the agreement. The pay scheme, the terms of the job and any other arrangements between the client company and the worker must follow that agreement. Salary and other allowances are usually negotiated between the service provider and the client.
- Work Obligations of Outsourced Staff
Even though they are not permanent employees of the company where they work, outsourced workers in Jakarta have the same work obligations as permanent staff. A simple example is working hours: outsourced workers must follow the same schedule as permanent employees, including start times and any shift system in place. They may even be required to come in on days off.
- The Labor Provider
When you need outsourced staff, you will look for a contact who can connect you with a company that supplies them. You will find a great many outsourcing companies in Jakarta offering all kinds of workers for the non-core areas of your business. But not every one of them can be trusted, and you do not want legal trouble after hiring outsourced staff. So it is wise to look into the details and background of the labor provider. Also confirm that the company's license is legal before you sign the contract.
That is the information on outsourced workers that you may need at some point to keep your business running smoothly.
